Day 6 has come to a close. Because today was a free day, most but not all of us, enjoyed a relaxing morning sleeping in. With our free time, we all decided to take a trip to Byron Bay, another nearby beach town equipped with lots of shops, food, a beach, a lighthouse, and a few more tourists similar to ourselves. As a group we traveled on the 11:30 am bus out of Lennox Head and arrived in Byron Bay within 30 minutes. We quickly realized that the rainy weather that we were previously warned of was not accurate, and the Australian sun was out in full force. With the nice weather and a long day ahead, the group immediately went to get lunch at a burger bar called Beloporto upon our arrival. It turned out to be exactly what we needed to get the day started.
After lunch, we meandered around the streets and wandered in and out of surf and souvenir shops. Everyone stopped by Mojo Surf Shop, the company who gave us surf lessons, to look at the apparel and say hello to Robin, one of our surf instructors from Friday. Eventually, we all ended up at the beach to soak up some sun. The beach, as usual, was only partly crowded with sun bathers and surfers and offered unusually warm water.
After the beach and before the shuttle back to Lennox Head, all ten of us met up at a gelato shop called Beaches and Cream to enjoy a refreshing sweet treat. There was a variety of flavors such Ferraro No Share, Bananas!, Banana Nutella, Vanilla, and Chocolate to name a few.
Finally, at 5 pm the whole group reunited to travel back to Lennox Head. Once we arrived back in our own beach town, groups split up to get some dinner. Some had Italian food at Quattro and others went to Poncho Villa for Mexican. After scarfing down nachos and fish tacos, I joined others in walking back to the cabin for our final time. Tomorrow we travel to Sydney and we can't wait to see what new adventures lie ahead!
