Daily review for Tuesday, May 16th.

Day#1 – Lennox Head

We landed in Brisbane after our twelve hour flight and our motor coach bus driver, Shane, kindly met us at the airport.  He talked most of our two hour bus ride educating us on the crops in the field.  Shane has an excellent Aussie accent and sounds just like Crocodile Dundee when he told us a story about cane sugar cane was being cut down with a “knife”.

We arrived to the Ainsworth Sports and Recreation Center which reminds me of a campground full of beach houses or cabins.  Upon arrival our rooms were not ready so we headed through our backyard onto the beach.  All of us took a nice long stroll on the tan, sandy beach with large, white cap waves in the blue-green water.  It was a beautiful, sunny, and warm day.

We had our first education session on our back patio.  The students completed their pre-trip assessments to identify their cultural identities then received first lecture on cultural competence.  Shortly thereafter our cabin was ready so everyone was able to get settled into our 5 bedroom/ 5 bathroom beach house.  The students were able to spread out since there are about 26 beds.  Most of us were eager to enjoy our first hot Australian shower.
All of us headed into town for our walking tour of Lennox Head.  We learned about the best wifi places in town, found the IGA grocery store, spotted some stores, located the physiotherapy clinic and ended up at Beef & Beach restaurant.  We had a Australian, slow-paced dinner with the menu options of cod, lamb shank, pork belly salad or chicken parmigiana.  After our meal we went to the grocery store and headed home before 8 pm.

Today is a gorgeous day to sun bathe.  There are a few gals working on their tans laying on the beach.    The high temp today is 71 degrees.

Until next time,

~LeAnna~
